The Youzilin Canal Sluice Gate is located midstream along the Zhuzimen Drainage in Meinong District. This gate raises the water level of the Zhuzimen Drainage, providing irrigation for approximately 300 hectares of farmland, benefiting water groups such as Hehe and Longshan on both sides. The width of the drainage channel is about 30 meters. Originally, temporary weirs were built on the left side of the channel using jumbo bags and gravel to divert river water into the irrigation channels. However, these weirs were often destroyed during heavy rains, leaving downstream farmlands without irrigation water. As a result, improvement works were initiated.
This project, coordinated with the drainage management plan, involves a channel width of 30 meters (including 1 meter for pier columns). Two tilting gates, each 14.5 meters long and 2.85 meters high, were installed. The water retention elevation is set at EL.55.52 meters. Due to the downstream waterfall drop, tilting gates are used to discharge sediment. The left bank intake elevation is EL.54.57 meters, while the right bank intake elevation is EL.54.27 meters. Both intakes are designed with single-lift manual gates measuring 1.0m x 1.0m.
Project Duration: January 4, 2019 – August 31, 2019
(1) Stable Water Supply and Effective Flood Discharge
The water retention height is set according to the existing intake elevations on both banks, ensuring an uninterrupted water supply for irrigating about 300 hectares of farmland downstream.
The tilting gates can operate in sequence, allowing sediment discharge without affecting water intake on either side.
Electronic water level monitoring automatically adjusts the water level, effectively preventing the irrigation area from being impacted by increased water release from upstream power plants or sudden water level surges caused by occasional heavy rainfall.
Multiple automatic emergency tilting devices (both electronic and mechanical) are installed to prevent flooding in the upstream area due to unforeseen events.
(2) Low Maintenance Requirements
The exposed surfaces of the gates and frames are made of SUS304 stainless steel, eliminating the need for rust removal or repainting, thus reducing future maintenance costs.
The tilting gates use concealed lifting steel cables, preventing debris in the river from damaging the cables, which extends their lifespan and resolves the issue of debris getting stuck in the cables. This significantly reduces maintenance costs.
The drum-type gate lifting machine is equipped with a protective cover, ensuring operator safety by preventing entanglement in the rotating machinery. It also shields the equipment from wind and sun exposure, extending its service life.
