History

Date Achievements
1837 Mr. Cao Jin dug Wuli Old Canal, which is now Caogong Canal.
1902 32 public irrigation canal cooperatives were established including Caogong Canal.
July 1908 Caogong Canal, Da Pond, Cao Pond etc. were merged and renamed Caogong Canal Public Irrigation Canal Federation. Baijia Canal, Laogongjue Canal, Sanzhen Pond, Sanye Pond, Dingzhong Pond, Xiashe Pond, Keren Pond, Gangshanjiao Pond etc. were merged and renamed the Agongdian Public Irrigation Canal Federation.
September 1920 The federations were merged and renamed Kaohsiung Prefecture Public Irrigation Canal Federation.
March 1924 The Kaohsiung Prefecture Public Irrigation Canal Federation was reorganized into 11 Irrigation Cooperatives including Gangshan, Nanzi, Caogong, Qishan, Shizitou, Liugui, Xinwei, Pingchao, Donggang, Fangliao and Hengchun.
January 1940 Nanzi Irrigation Cooperative was merged into Caogong Irrigation Cooperative.
February 1940 Shizitou, Liugui and Xinwei were merged into Qishan Irrigation Cooperative.
July 1942 Gangshan Irrigation Cooperative was merged into Caogong Irrigation Cooperative.
March 1943 Caogong Irrigation Cooperative was renamed Kaohsiung Irrigation Cooperative.
February 1945 Kaohsiung, Qishan, Pingchao, Donggang, Hengchun, Fangliao and others were merged into Kaohsiung Prefecture Irrigation Cooperative.Kaohsiung Prefecture Governor concurrently served as the cooperative president.
November 1945 After Retrocession (1945) the county magistrate concurrently served as cooperative president.
October 1946 Renamed Kaohsiung Irrigation Coordination Association. The county magistrate concurrently served as association president and branches were established in each district.
November 1947 New county magistrate concurrently served as association president.
February 1948 Renamed Kaohsiung Irrigation Committee, with the county magistrate concurrently serving as chairperson.
January 1949 New county magistrate concurrently served as chairperson.
May 1949 First elected chairperson chosen.
January 1951 Pingtung irrigation area was designated a separate and independent irrigation area.
March 1951 The elected chairman resigned and Kaohsiung county magistrate concurrently served as chairman.
May 1951 The elected county magistrate concurrently served as chairman.
June 1952 Full-time chairman elected.
November 1952 The Kaohsiung Irrigation Association was reorganized and the first president elected.
November 1959 The second term president was elected.
March 1963 The third term president was elected.
December 1966 The fourth term president was elected.
May 1970 The fifth term president was elected.
